Founder, Managing PartnerKenneth Zaifman graduated from law school in 1975 and articled with Richardson & Company, a well-established Winnipeg law firm. After his call to the bar in 1976, he joined Kopstein Kimmelman & Co.
One day in 1979, William Kenyon Cole stumbled into Mr. Zaifman’s office looking for a lawyer to stop his deportation from Canada. R. v. Cole was Mr.Zaifman’s first immigration case and the rest, as they say, is history.
Along the way, Mr. Zaifman became involved with the Canadian Bar Association (Past Chair), American Immigration Lawyer’s Association (Past Chair), Manitoba Bar Association (Past Chair), International Bar Association and the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (meetings in New Zealand, conferences in Singapore).
Managing PartnerMira Thow practices immigration law with Zaifman Immigration Lawyers in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Ms. Thow has lectured and delivered papers on immigration law at the University of Manitoba Faculty of Law, the Canadian Bar Association National Legal Education program, the Law Society of British Columbia and the Minnesota Institute of Legal Education, and has argued precedent setting cases in the Canadian Federal Court.
Mr. Szikinger earned his Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree in law from the University of Manitoba in 2012. He practiced immigration and criminal defence law with a boutique law firm in downtown Winnipeg before joining Zaifman Immigration Lawyers as an associate in September 2015. His practice now focuses exclusively on Canadian immigration and citizenship law.
Mr. Szikinger is fluent in Hungarian and has lived in six different cities on four different continents before making Winnipeg his home. As such, he has a great appreciation for the unique needs and challenges faced by immigrants and their families.
Bonnie Weber is the Operations Manager at Zaifman Law and has been with the firm for 7 years. She graduated from Red River College from the Business Administration Program with a Major in Accounting in 2004 and has been working as a full cycle Accountant ever since.
Aside from a busy work schedule, Bonnie enjoys spending time with her family especially her two sons and husband and currently volunteers on the board of her community club as the fundraising coordinator/treasurer.
Immigration ConsultantDarlene Goodman is a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant and joined Network Canada in September 1990. She has extensive immigration experience dealing with all areas of immigration and citizenship, including: permanent residence applications under the Federal and Provincial Nominee programs, business immigration applications, sponsorships, temporary residence applications such as Work Permits and Study Permits, Labour Market Impact Assessments, and humanitarian and compassionate applications. She is an accredited member of the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (“ICCRC”), and she was a presenter at the IMEDA “Goodbye, 2013…the year of changes” Seminar on the topic of the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program.
Rene is an immigration case manager at Zaifman since 2002. Over the years at Zaifman, Rene has managed a diverse variety of immigration files from clients from many countries and different backgrounds. Rene works with immigration applications through the Federal, Provincial and Temporary Foreign Worker programs. Rene’s previous experience with other Winnipeg law firms include Real Estate, Family and Corporate law. Rene is fluent in Spanish, enjoys spending time with his family, and has a passion for cars and motorcycles.
Heavenly Chan was born in the Philippines, raised in the United States, started her career in Taiwan, and has now settled down in Canada. She has a very unique flair for languages, and is fluent in English, Mandarin, Spanish, Tagalog, and Taiwanese. Her multilingual skills gives her the ability to deal with people from different cultures and backgrounds. Heavenly assists the lawyers and consultants in the firm by preparing forms, gathering documents, and undertaking other tasks related to immigration.
Legal AssistantJaspreet Sandhu is a Paralegal at Zaifman Immigration Lawyers and has been with the firm since November 2008.
