The Environmental Sustainability Strategy (ESS) is a plan for Burnabyâs âgreenâ future. It is the third â and completes the trilogy of â sustainable city policies, environmental, social and economic. The three-phase process used to create the ESS engaged over 2,500 people and collected over 8,000 ideas. The process was extensive, inclusive and creative and the response from the public and stakeholders has been overwhelmingly positive, setting a solid foundation of community support that will help to ensure the future success of the ESS.
The 16 âBig Movesâ and 25 âQuick Startsâ within the approved plan will be the Cityâs focus for the first wave of implementation for the ESS. The ESS also contains ways for you to take action in support of the 10 goals of the ESS.
The ESS process has demonstrated that the environment is important to our community. It represents our communityâs vision for a great future. By working cooperatively with the support of all our citizens and partners, together we can achieve the vision and goals of the ESS.
